Tennis Quotes of the Week - July 15th

Post-match interviews are an integral part of the careers of professional tennis players, often giving us some real gems! Here is a compilation of our favorite quotes from the week!

Le joueur de tennis Arthur Fils posant avec le trophée au tournoi de Hamburg en Allemagne sur terre battue

Arthur Fils is not here to please the crowd

At the age of 20, French tennis player Arthur Fils has become the 4th youngest French player to break into the ATP top 20 after defeating Alexander Zverev in the final of the ATP 500 tournament in Hamburg, played on clay.

Facing a break point at 5-5 in the 3rd set, Fils was suffering from cramps and attempted an underarm serve that unfortunately landed out. The German crowd didn't appreciate the attempt and booed him; it should be noted that Alexander Zverev also found the gesture disrespectful and made his feelings known to Fils during the changeover.

Fils ultimately held his serve and won the match in a tiebreak to claim the title. After the match, he was asked about the failed attempt:

I'm cramping, I try an underarm serve cause I cannot serve, crowd take it badly. I don't care. I'm winning and that's it.

What more is there to say?

Carlos Alcaraz + Emma Raducanu = ?

Carlos Alcaraz continued his domination in the tennis world by completing the "Channel Slam," the feat of winning titles at both Roland-Garros and Wimbledon in the same year. During the Wimbledon final against Novak Djokovic, Emma Raducanu was spotted in the stands, having recently separated from her partner.

After quickly dominating Novak Djokovic to claim his second title in London, journalists asked Alcaraz about the presence of the young British player, wondering if she was there to watch him play personally or just to enjoy the final.

I don't know if she came to watch the final or to watch me. You have to ask her.

Is something brewing between these two young stars? Regardless, Alcaraz responded with his usual class.

"Ruudal," the new "Fedal"?

In preparation for the Paris Olympics, Rafael Nadal participated in the ATP 250 tournament in Bastad, Sweden. Already confirmed to play doubles in Paris with Carlos Alcaraz, Nadal used the opportunity to practice with Casper Ruud.

The duo quickly charmed tennis fans, who dubbed them "Ruudal." The new team won their first two matches but had to withdraw from the semifinals to preserve Nadal's energy after he played a four-hour singles match.

During their first match, there were a few rain delays. When asked about this after the match, Casper Ruud took the opportunity to tease his partner about his age, much to Nadal's amusement.

He's getting old, so I'm not sure how his body feels having to start and stop all the time.

Nadal's body ultimately felt the effects of the many hours spent on the court, as he was soundly defeated in the final by Nuno Borges.
