Rafael Nadal Wins His First Round Match in Bastad

Tennis players Rafael Nadal and Leo Borg talk at the net in Bastad

Rafael Nadal Wins His First Match in Two Months

This match was highly anticipated as it marked Rafael Nadal's return to the court after a two-month hiatus since his first-round exit at Roland-Garros against Alexander Zverev. In preparation for the Paris Olympics, Rafa chose to participate in the ATP 250 tournament in Bastad, Sweden, for the first time in nearly 19 years.

The last time Nadal played in Bastad was in 2005, where he clinched the title by defeating Tomas Berdych in the final in 3 sets of 2-6, 6-2, and 6-4.

Rafael Nadal vs. Leo Borg

In this match, Nadal faced Leo Borg, the son of the legendary Bjorn Borg, who is currently ranked 530th in the world at the age of 21. While many would have loved to see a clash between Nadal and Bjorn Borg at their peaks on clay, this match between Rafa and Leo still provided a thrilling contest.

Both players had positive ratios: Nadal with 24 winners and only 5 unforced errors, and Borg with 23 winners against 8 unforced errors. The experienced Spaniard ultimately won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, advancing to the second round where he will face the world No. 42, Cam Norrie.
