Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz Headed to Paris

Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz talk at the net after a match
Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz will team up at the Paris Olympics

First Olympics for Carlos Alcaraz

It's no surprise that this will be the first Olympic Games for Carlos Alcaraz, who just turned 21. He will have the chance to continue his recent dominance when he steps onto the Philippe-Chatrier court at Roland-Garros, where the Olympic tennis tournament will take place from July 27 to August 4.

For this event, Carlos Alcaraz will compete in singles and doubles alongside 14-time Roland-Garros champion Rafael Nadal. The Spanish team will certainly be one of the biggest talking points of these summer games. The two teammates will spend their first night in the Olympic Village on Monday, with Nadal arriving directly from Bastad, where he just finished as runner-up, while Alcaraz will travel from his home in Spain.

First Practice Scheduled for Monday, July 22nd

Although the two Spaniards have not yet scheduled a doubles practice, they will be on the clay courts on Monday for singles practice. Carlos Alcaraz has reserved a practice court from 11AM to 1PM with Pablo Carreño Busta. Carreño Busta, who won bronze in singles at Tokyo 2020, will compete in doubles alongside Marcel Granollers.

Rafael Nadal will practice in the afternoon from 3PM to 5PM. Although the two players will start the week with singles practice, they have planned two days to fine-tune their doubles chemistry.

Nadal's Doubles Experience

While it may seem surprising to some fans, seasoned followers already know that Rafael Nadal is an excellent doubles player. He has 11 doubles titles, including an Olympic gold medal won alongside Marc Lopez in Rio 2016. He also has an 8-4 record in Davis Cup doubles.

The real question lies with Carlos Alcaraz, who has very little professional doubles experience, with his last match played being in 2022. His career record of 3-3 does not fully reflect his potential, given that he just won the singles title at Roland-Garros last month.

Despite this lack of experience, Nadal is very excited to team up with the player many see as his successor at Roland-Garros.

I couldn't have a better partner. Winning a medal for your country is always special, and doubles is an opportunity to win one.

Regardless, we will be watching each of their matches, which promise to be very entertaining and will give us one last chance to see Rafael Nadal compete in the Olympic Games.
