Roland-Garros ended almost two weeks ago, marking the deadline for the ATP and WTA rankings to allow players to qualify for the Olympic tournament, which will be held from July 27 to August 4, 2024. We wrote an article detailing the qualification criteria last week, which you can read here to learn more.
The qualification criteria were already complex, and several players withdrew even though they had qualified, many due to concerns about injuries from the numerous surface changes (Clay - Grass - Clay - Hard Court). In this article, we will discuss the players who have qualified for the tennis tournament and whose participation has been confirmed by their Olympic committee.
Spain - Olympic Tennis Team
There were few surprises from the Spanish side, with Nadal and Carreno Busta using their protected rankings to qualify. It has already been confirmed that the doubles team everyone dreams of seeing in Paris, Nadal and Alcaraz, will take part in the tournament. They will certainly be among the favorites to win a medal.
Obviously, the reigning Roland-Garros champion, Carlos Alcaraz, will be the favorite to win the Olympic gold in singles, as the tournament will be held at the very location of his triumph just two weeks ago.

United States - Olympic Tennis Team
There have been several surprising withdrawals from the American team. First, Ben Shelton announced that he did not wish to participate in the Games due to the surface, as the tournament is being held on clay at Roland-Garros. He was then followed by his compatriots Sebastian Korda, Frances Tiafoe, and Madison Keys. The latter is the most surprising since she had an excellent clay court season: semi-finals in Madrid, quarter-finals in Rome, and the title in Strasbourg. Nonetheless, the Americans will be well represented.
Another major surprise is that doubles specialist Nicole Melichar-Martinez was not selected by the American federation. She is the top American doubles player and a member of the world top-10. She expressed her displeasure on Twitter, and rightfully so, having represented the United States at the Tokyo Olympics. The reasons behind her non-selection remain unknown for the time being.
