Update: Novak Djokovic just announced that he would not participate due to an injury. This means that Andrey Rublev, Alex de Minaur and Casper Ruud are officially qualified.
The ATP Nitto Finals are among the most anticipated events in tennis each year, uniting the top eight singles players and doubles teams who will battle for the 2024 season’s prestigious title. This tournament closes out the ATP Tour, giving the world’s best players a high-stakes stage to compete for one of the sport's most coveted championships.
Tournament Format
The ATP Finals follow a round-robin format, featuring two groups of four players or teams. Each competitor faces the others in their group, with the top two from each group advancing to the semifinals. Unlike single-elimination tournaments, this structure allows fans to witness multiple clashes among top players in every round, providing the chance to see a player fight through several matches—even after a loss.
Players earn ATP ranking points with every victory, adding intensity to each encounter. A champion who goes undefeated can accumulate up to 1,500 points—nearly equal to a Grand Slam title (2,000 points), which can significantly impact year-end rankings.
The draw ceremony is now over and we know the composition of the two groups:
Ilie Nastase Group John Newcombe Group
1- Jannik Sinner 2- Alexander Zverev
4- Daniil Medvedev 3- Carlos Alcaraz
5- Taylor Fritz 6- Casper Ruud
7- Alex de Minaur 8- Andrey Rublev
Prize Money
The ATP Finals is one of the most lucrative tournaments in tennis, with millions of dollars awarded based on performance in each match. A player who wins the title undefeated could earn nearly $5 million, making it both a prestigious title and a valuable financial reward.

The Road to Turin
The ATP Finals are the culmination of a season filled with Grand Slams, Masters 1000 tournaments, and other events that award ranking points. Only the top eight players in the "Race to Turin" qualify, creating a final stretch of the season that tests each player’s consistency, resilience, and performance. As the host city, Turin offers its own charm, providing players and fans with a unique setting for the tournament.
Among the already-qualified players, we have:
1- Jannik Sinner - 10,330 points
2- Alexander Zverev - 7,315 points
3- Carlos Alcaraz - 6,810 points
4- Daniil Medvedev - 4,830 points
5- Taylor Fritz - 4,300 points
This leaves three spots up for grabs in the season-ending championship. The players still in the running include:
Novak Djokovic - 3,910 points
Casper Ruud - 3,855 points (playing Moselle Open, ATP 250)
Alex de Minaur - 3,745 points (playing Belgrade, ATP 250)
Andrey Rublev - 3,720 points (playing Moselle Open, ATP 250)
Since the ATP Nitto Finals will take place from November 10 to 17, 2024, this is their last opportunity to earn points toward qualification.
Qualification System
Although rankings may seem straightforward at first glance, not all results count toward rankings. The events that contribute to rankings include:
Four Grand Slam tournaments (Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon, US Open)
Eight mandatory Masters 1000 events (Miami, Indian Wells, Madrid, Rome, Canada, Cincinnati, Shanghai, Paris-Bercy)
Seven other best results from ATP Cup, Monte Carlo Masters 1000, ATP 500, ATP 250, Challenger, and ITF tournaments
Qualification Scenarios
Novak Djokovic – 3,910 points
Despite not competing at the Paris Masters and playing only ten tournaments this year, Djokovic is in a strong position in the rankings. Only Ruud, de Minaur, and Rublev have the chance to overtake him, requiring outstanding performances in their respective tournaments.
Notably, both Ruud and Rublev are in the Moselle Open, so only one can claim the 250 points on offer.
To prevent Djokovic from qualifying, the following must happen:
Rublev wins the Moselle Open
Ruud reaches the semifinals or better
De Minaur wins Belgrade
It's worth noting Djokovic hasn't confirmed participation in the ATP Finals if he qualifies. Seen vacationing last week, he may opt out of the finals if he feels unprepared. Should this be the case, Ruud, Rublev, and de Minaur would qualify.
Additionally, Djokovic’s brother, Djordje, is the director of the ATP 250 tournament in Belgrade where de Minaur competes, raising speculation that Djokovic may delay announcing his decision to make sure the Australian doesn't withdraw from his brother's tournament.
Casper Ruud – 3,855 points
If Djokovic confirms his participation, Ruud could still secure a spot by:
Rublev not reaching the Moselle Open final
De Minaur not reaching the Belgrade final
Ruud reaching the semifinals at the Moselle Open
While other scenarios are possible, Ruud stands in a solid position to qualify.
Alex de Minaur – 3,745 points
If de Minaur reaches the semifinals or better in Belgrade, it will count as his seventh best result (See the Qualification System section), allowing him to replace the 50 points from Barcelona or Antwerp. A quarterfinal finish would add no points to his total.
The Australian can qualify for Turin if:
He wins Belgrade
He advances one round further than Rublev
Andrey Rublev – 3,720 points
Although Rublev trails de Minaur by 25 points in the race to Turin, de Minaur's points will drop by 50 due to the maximum number of tournaments counting toward final rankings. Thus, Rublev will secure a spot if he matches or outperforms de Minaur.
