Bianca Andreescu back on the courts at Indian Wells

Andreescu appears as a tournament ambassador

As reported by canadien journalist Stephanie Myles, Bianca Andreescu made an appearance earlier this week on the practice courts at Indian Wells. Unfortunately for the young Canadian fans, she was there as an ambassador for the tournament that she won in 2019, marking the first big title of her career.

During an interview with Ravi Ubha, Andreescu indicated that her back injury was fully healed and that she was slowly but surely making her way back on court. However, by looking at the images filmed by Stephanie Myles during her short practice session, it is clear that she's still being cautious, only using the slice on her backhand.

That could have spelled trouble for the 2019 U.S. Open champion, but she only started training again a month ago. Her main focus right now is on building her fitness and being cautious with her back, she then plans to ramp up training in the next few weeks.

Roland-Garros and the Paris Olympics in sight

If everything goes according to her plan, she wishes to return to competition at Roland-Garros, then represent Canada at the Paris Olympics that will be held from July 24th to August 4th. For now, the most realistic way for her to qualify would be her protected ranking which stands at No. 64.

Even if the main draw at the Olympics has 64 players in it, only the 56 best ranked players will automatically qualify. There are a few other ways she could squeeze in : withdrawals, the 4-players by country limit and the invitation given to a past Grand Slam champion.

Let's hope that Bianca will be back healthy as she is one of the most dangerous players on the WTA tour. Meanwhile, here are the images filmed by Stephanie Myles earlier this week :
